Disability and Chronic Illness
In 2013, after a two-year project phase, the Advisory Service for Disability and Chronic Illness at the UDE was relocated to the university's Academic Counseling Center (ABZ). The following recomendations, acts, and conventions are the cornerstones of the Advisory Service’s work on campus:
- the German Rectors' Conference's (HRK) recommendation "A University for All" (2009),
- the General Equity Act (AGG),
- the Federal Disability Equality Act (BGG) in conjunction with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).
For this purpose, a Representative for Students with Disability has been appointed. The representative is entrusted with organisatorial and advisory tasks within the university.
Due to the percentage of students with disabilities/chronic illness (one in ten), individual counseling for said students is offered at the ABZ by the Advisory Service for Disability and Chronic Illness. Students may contact the Advisory Service regarding equal opportunities and student participation on campus at any time during their studies.

Designing accessible Moodle courses
Everyone benefits from a transparent structure and a barrier-free design. The open Moodle course "Designing accessible Moodle courses" offers practical tips on how to structure and design your own Moodle course rooms that users with disabilities can access without obstacles. FYI: Content from the Moodle courses can to a large extent be utilized when designing websites and creating teaching/learning materials.
The course room has been licensed under CC BY-SA 4.0 of the Moodle Competence Center of the UDE, with the participation of the Service Center staff.
