Our research profile is characterized by the fact that we strategically identify sustainable ideas, consistently promote them and systematically develop them further. This takes place in both basic and application-oriented research, as well as in the transfer of knowledge to industry and society.

The cornerstones of this research profile are currently the five university-wide profile focal points, which numerous researchers from twelve faculties and fourteen cross-faculty central academic institutions are shaping and developing. Cooperative research projects are just as much a part of this as excellent individual research.

We make it our mission to discover top-class research talents as early as possible and to systematically promote them for a successful career in science as well as for challenging tasks in business and society. Building on consistently research-based teaching, we achieve this by integrating students into relevant research projects and structured doctoral programs.

The University Alliance Ruhr also drives our excellent research forward. UDE works together with its partners in this alliance under the motto “Better together”. We would like to systematically expand and consolidate this alliance in the future. The establishment of the Research Alliance Ruhr makes a significant strategic contribution to this. Together, we can pool top international research on pressing issues of the future. It is therefore logical for the University Alliance Ruhr to cooperate closely in preparing applications for the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments.
