Third annual conference of the Association for socioeconomic education and research (ASEER) | 21-22 February 2019 | University of Duisburg-Essen
General information & program
General information & program
Ha-Joon Chang
The conference will begin on February 21 with a Keynote "Let a hundred flowers bloom" address by Ha-Joon Chang (University of Cambridge), who will inaugurate the international English-language program of this conference day.
This will be followed by a plenary session on academic teaching in pluralist economics and socio-economics with Lucio Baccaro (Director of the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies, Cologne), Lisa Herzog (Professor for Political Philosophy and Theory, Munich) and Jakob Kapeller (Professor for pluralist economics, IfSO University of Duisburg-Essen). The session will be chaired by Julian Bank (IfSO, University of Duisburg-Essen).
The late afternoon is devoted to socio-economic education at the school level. The following questions will be addressed in a comparative, international perspective: How do teacher training programes look like in different countries? What can study programes in economics and related disciplines learn from interdisciplinary traditions in teacher training? Have the debates surrounding “pluralism in economics” had an impact on teacher training and (socio-)economic education at schools? The discussants are Igor Martinache (University of Lille), Jacek Brant (University College London), Anke Uhlenwinkel (University of Klagenfurt) und Birgit Weber (University of Cologne). The session will be chaired by Reinhold Hedtke (Bielefeld University).
On February 22, there will be parallel sessions on the conference topic from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.
General assembly of the ASEER and opening of the 'Festival for Pluralism':
The general assembly of the ASEER will already take place on February 20 (starting at 4 p.m.). After that, a joint evening program for the members of the ASEER and the participants of the 'Festival for Pluralism' is scheduled. Members who want to join should consider this in their travel plans.
