Introduction to reference management with Zotero

The basic functions of Zotero are practised and explained.
Previous knowledge is not required.

Focal points include:
- structure and operation of Zotero
- literature research in catalogues and databases and automatic
- transfer of literature sources to Zotero
- inserting references into the text or as a footnote with a mouse click
- outputting the bibliography in the desired citation style

Download and installation
- Zotero for Windows, Mac und Linux
- Browser-AddOn 'Zotero Connector', to save references and PDF documents directly from the browser in Zotero
Information for iPad users:
To use Zotero on the iPad, please download the Zotero app from the App Store. When using the app for the first time, create a free account with Zotero. The connector is not required on the iPad.
Zotero account
To use and synchronize on different devices, you need a free Zotero account (terms of use, information on data protection). The account can be created with any e-mail address.
If you only want to work locally, a Zotero account is not required.
Space
Local working:
The storage space for bibliographic data is unlimited, attachments such as PDF files can be saved in any size and number.
Working with synchronization between different devices:
The synchronization of bibliographic data ("Data Sync") is unlimited. The synchronization of attachments ("File Sync") is limited to 300 MB with a free account.

- Multilingual interface
- Important: Please disable synchronization with other cloud applications (e.g. Sciebo, OneDrive, DropBox, ICloud) while working with Zotero.

Optional adjustment
The plugin for working with your word processing program (Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, GoogleDocs) is automatically installed. For LaTeX we recommend the 'Better BibTeX (BBT)' plugin.
