Margit Hempel, StDir'
Margit Hempel taught in the field of EFL Education at the University of Duisburg-Essen since 2008. Her main teaching and research interests are language teaching methodology, media-assisted language learning, Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and intercultural communicative competence. These foci are also reflected in her PhD thesis on the influence of course books, media and materials on the development of oral skills of students during the transition from Primary to Secondary school she is currently completing. Another focus of her work is the organization of national and international internships for Bachelor of Education Undergraduates (for Lehramtsstudierende) and preparing them for their time abroad.
Margit Hempel studied English and Biology for German secondary schools at the University of Bielefeld. During her time as a student, she received a scholarship from Mount Holyoke College, Massachusetts. There she worked as a Language Fellow and obtained her BA in English and American Studies.
After completing her first state examination (Erstes Staatsexamen) and her second state examination (Zweites Staatsexamen) she worked as teacher at the Heinrich-Böll-Gesamtschule in Oberhausen and the Anne-Frank-Gesamtschule in Viersen from 1994 - 2004. Since language learning and intercultural learning has always been one of her research and working interests, she also worked as a lecturer of EFL-Education at the University of Bielefeld and as a teacher trainer for the local government (Bezirksregierung) in Düsseldorf during this time.
In 2004 she returned to university and worked as a lecturer for pedagogy (Allgemeine Didaktik) and Praktikumsmanagerin at the Westfälische Wilhelmsuniverisät Münster until 2008.
In her spare time Margit Hempel explores Anglophone countries and cultures and loves to gain first hand experiences.
