Prof. Dr. Gerhard Frey
receives an honorary doctorate from Saarland University.
Professor Dr. Gerhard Frey has now been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of Saarland University. Frey is considered a pioneer in the number theory of elliptic curves. He has provided decisive approaches to solving the centuries-old Fermat problem and has also made outstanding contributions to cryptography.
Professor Gerd Heusch
has been awarded the "Distinguished Leader Award".
Prof. Dr. Dr. hc Gerd Heusch has once again received a major award: The International Society for Heart Research (ISHR) has awarded the director of the Institute of Pathophysiology at Essen University Hospital the “Distinguished Leader Award” for his long-standing work as an outstanding scientist in the field of heart-attack research.
The research team led by Prof. Dr. Till Neumann
is the winner of the “ZukunftErfinden NRW” competition.
Hope for heart patients – a research team led by Prof. Dr. Till Neumann – has been handed 10,000 euros in prize money by the Science Minister Svenja Schulze. The team won the prize with a pioneering invention in the “ZukunftErfindenNRW” university competition in the Life Sciences category.
Univ.-Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Schmidt
is awarded the 2014 German Steel Construction Prize.
What do the Eiffel Tower, the Berlin Reichstag dome and the Müngsten Bridge have in common? They are all striking steel structures with extremely high stability. The consistency of the relevant standards at national and European level is also thanks to two scientists who have focused on this area over many years: Prof. em. Dr.-Ing. Herbert Schmidt of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Joachim Lindner of the TU Berlin. This year, therefore, they will be awarded the German Steel Construction Prize.
Prof. Reinhard Zellner
is awarded the 2014 DECHEMA Medal.
Physical chemist and atmospheric researcher Prof. Dr. h.c. Reinhard Zellner from the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) has been awarded the 2014 DECHEMA Medal of the Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology. This is in honour of his extraordinary professional commitment to climate and atmospheric protection and its implementation in industry and society.
Dr. Gabi Schierning
receives the NRW Innovation Prize.
On 10 March, Dr. Gabi Schierning was awarded the 2014 NRW Innovation Prize in the “Young Talent” category for the development of a thermoelectric generator out of environment-friendly material. The 35-year-old heads a research group that focuses on the conversion of heat into electricity at the Center for Nanointegration (CENIDE) at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE).
