Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bauer
is awarded the GIST Prize.
This year’s GIST Prize, which is endowed with CHF 10,000, has been awarded to Prof. Dr. Sebastian Bauer of the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). The doctor who works in the internal clinic at the West German Tumour Centre Essen (WTZ) at the University Hospital Essen (UK Essen) received the award in Zurich. It was given in reflection of his outstanding research achievements and his commitment to the affected patients.
The UDE Engineering Science Team
has won the KUER start-up competition.
Will the goods consignment arrive in time for Christmas? This depends in part on whether, for example, a cable robot has fetched the right package quickly and efficiently from the high-bay warehouse. The engineering team at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) won the NRW Environment Ministry’s KUER start-up competition with its 20,000 euro cash prize
with such a concept. The competition focuses on environmental and climate protection, energy efficiency, and resource conservation.

He was already considered a pioneer, and now it's official: the rector of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), Prof. Dr. Ulrich Radtke, is University Manager of the Year 2015. This was announced on 25 November at the ZEIT University and Education Conference in Berlin.
Prof. Dr. Carolin Rotter
has been awarded the Kurt-Hartwig-Siemers Science Prize.
Whether teachers in schools have an immigrant background is less important than previously thought for both their colleagues and students. This is what Prof. Dr. Carolin Rotter discovered during her research work, and for this she has been awarded the Kurt-Hartwig-Siemers Science Prize.
High honour for Professor Wilfried Loth – Academic Palms.
The highest accolade: Dr. Wilfried Loth, Professor Emeritus for Modern and Contemporary History at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), has been honoured with the insignia of an officer in the Order of Academic Palms. In his speech, the French ambassador to Germany, Philippe Etienne, praised his exemplary commitment to Franco-German understanding in scientific historical research.
Dr. E. Pascal Malkemper
has been awarded the 2015 Fritz-Frank Prize.
How do animals hear and see, and how do they sense magnetic fields? Dr. E. Pascal Malkemper (30) from the General Zoology working group at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) focused on the sensory biology of the red fox. He has recently been awarded the 2015 Fritz-Frank Prize of the German Society for Mammalian Biology (DGS) for his excellent work. The prize, worth 3,000 euros, is given in recognition of outstanding scientific achievement by young scientists under 33 years old.
Prof. Dr. Dieter Schramm
receives an honorary doctorate from the University of Miskolc in Hungary.
Distance, lane-changing, night detection: For many areas there are already driver-assistance systems. These are the specialist fields of Prof. Dr. Dieter Schramm, who holds the Chair of Mechatronics at the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), and his expertise is in demand all over the world. The University of Miskolc in Hungary recently awarded him an honorary doctorate, thus acknowledging his research achievements, which are also important for the automotive industry.
Prof. Dr. Volker Buck
receives an honorary doctorate from the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University in Belarus.
After having been long involved in building meaningful networks, Prof. Dr. Volker Buck of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) has now been awarded for his work in Belarus. The professor of technical physics has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the Francisk Skorina Gomel State University. This title is in recognition of his training of scientists and for building up international cooperation.

receives the 2014 Wilhelm Warner Prize.
Professor Dr. Dirk Schadendorf from the Medical Faculty of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) today (22.5) receives the 2014 Wilhelm Warner Prize worth 10,000 euros, awarded by the foundation of the same name. The Director of the Clinic for Dermatology at the Essen University Hospital (Essen University) is honoured for his outstanding achievements in the field of cancer research and the treatment of cancer patients.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Wilfried Loth
has been accepted into the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
Dr. Dr. hc Wilfried Loth, Professor Emeritus of Modern History, has been accepted into the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, which is based in Salzburg. The Academy, founded 25 years ago, brings together scientists from 71 countries, all of whom are committed to interdisciplinary and European thinking.
Prof. Dr. phil. Rolf Nagel
is a member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon.
Dr. phil. Rolf Nagel, an honorary professor of Romance languages, has been elected a member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon (1779). The expert for Portuguese language and literature is also a member of the Portuguese Academy of History and the Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute in Rio de Janeiro.
Prof. Dr. Harald H. Quick
receives the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Award.
What would medicine look like without magnetic resonance images? One person who is investigating how better images of the inside of the human body can be obtained is Prof. Dr. Harald H. Quick of the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE). The specialist for high-field and hybrid MR imaging has now been awarded the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Award. This is awarded every two years for outstanding scientific achievements in this field.
