Area A
Research Area A: Catalysis
The catalytic performance and chemical surface properties will be investigated and modeled in Area A. Thermal-, electro-, and photocatalytic experiments will be conducted under mild conditions at temperatures below 200°C with the materials obtained from Area C and characterized in Area B and in the S project to gain experimental insight into the targeted relationships between physical properties and chemical reactivity. Simultaneously, complementary computational approaches are chosen to model and understand the fundamentals of the oxidation reactions. The six projects A1–A6 cover the three types of catalysis, operando surface studies, and two complementary theoretical descriptions of reactivity and solid–liquid interfaces. According to the concept of our Comparative Study, a selection of oxidation reactions will be employed in all three types of catalysis to provide generic insight into the materials-related effects on oxidation catalysis.
