Electrical Engineering and Information Technology - Bachelor und Master
Bachelor Study Program
In the bachelor's program with a length of 6 semesters (9 semesters for a part-time program), a general study of electrical engineering related to the fundamentals is offered, in which all essential areas are covered.
Since the electrical engineering fundamentals are no different for a power engineer than for an information or automation engineer, we have deliberately refrained from already offering special specializations here.
After completing this course, students are free to continue their studies with one of the German-language master's programs or, for example, to switch to the international program ISE (International Studies in Engineering).
On the other hand, entry into a profession is already possible with the bachelor's degree. Career prospects are currently good and are expected to get even better in the future, because currently more engineers are leaving the profession due to age reasons than young ones are entering. One only needs to look at the television news, the daily newspapers or the relevant websites of the large companies and associations, all complain about the upcoming shortage of engineers.

Master Study Programs
In the master's program with a length of 4 semesters, building on the bachelor's program, the knowledge in special subjects is substantially deepened and treated in a scientific manner. Anyone who would like to work later in research, development or other scientific areas or even in management positions should therefore complete their studies with a Master's degree.
At the University of Duisburg-Essen, five specializations are offered for the master's program:
- Automation Technology (AT)
- Electrical Energy Technology (EET)
- Micro- and Optoelectronics (MOE)
- Communications Engineering (NT)
- Computer Engineering (TI)
These specializations form a broad selection option for the study program. Details on the specializations can be found in the module handbooks and the examination regulations.
