Retreat & Symposium 2022
From August 31 to September 3, 2022, the first CRC 1430 PhD Symposium, followed by the Annual Retreat, took place at the Hotel Seehof in Haltern am See. These events marked the first in-person gathering since the virtual retreat of 2021.
The PhD Symposium, held from August 31 to September 1, provided a platform for PhD students to present their research projects, offering insights into the wide range of work being carried out across the CRC. A panel discussion with junior Principal Investigators further enriched the symposium, fostering engaging exchanges and providing valuable feedback to the students.
On September 1, the Annual Retreat commenced and continued through to September 3. The retreat provided an opportunity to share the latest research developments from our labs. Researchers presented updates on their individual projects and collaborative efforts, sparking lively discussions and offering fresh perspectives. The evening poster sessions were a highlight, showcasing the impressive work of our PhD students and postdocs, and fostering stimulating conversations that could lead to new collaborations.
Outside the scientific sessions, participants enjoyed a high ropes course at the Klettergarten-Haltern, which facilitated networking and team-building in a relaxed environment.
The success of this retreat reflects the dedication and contributions of all participants, and we look forward to continuing this spirit at next year's retreat.
Congratulations!
The retreat concluded with the announcement of the award winners.
Beatrice Thier from the Paschen lab won the Poster Prize, followed by Mirko Schmidt and Nikolas Klink from the Gersch lab in second place, and Egor Pavlenko from the Pöpsel lab in third.
The Paper Prize was awarded to Madeline Dorsch and her lab (Grüner) for their publication, "Statins affect cancer cell plasticity with distinct consequences for tumor progression and metastasis", published in Science Direct.
