Description
The 4-semester Master of Education Teacher Training Constructional Technology is a consecutive degree program that builds on the Bachelor's degree program with the corresponding teacher training option.
It deepens the subject-specific, subject-didactic and educational-scientific knowledge and methodological skills as well as the school- and teaching-related professional pedagogical knowledge in specific courses. In addition, basic competences in organization and procedures of quality assurance are acquired.
The degree program qualifies students in particular to take up the preparatory service (Referendariat) for the corresponding teaching post as well as to take up employment with the following areas:
- Universities/ colleges (research and teaching, doctoral studies)
- Construction industry/construction trade (personnel development and in-company training and further education)
- State and private training and further education institutions (adult vocational training)
- Institutions, clubs and associations (vocational training and continuing education)
- Vocational training centers and vocational promotion centers (vocational rehabilitation)
- Publishing houses (technical editing, development of teaching and learning media)

Admission
Admission requirements
Prerequisite for admission to the Master's program for the teaching profession at vocational colleges is the successful completion of the following
- a Bachelor's degree program with the teacher training options vocational college or grammar school/comprehensive school with 2 teaching subjects suitable for combination according to § 5 para. 4 LZV or, under the condition according to sentence 4, a Bachelor's degree program consisting of two subjects approved for combination according to § 5 LZV at the University of Duisburg-Essen, or
- a relevant course of study of at least three years in two subjects approved for combination in accordance with § 5 LZV and educational science and subject didactics content at another university within the scope of the German Higher Education Framework Act (Hochschulrahmengesetz) with a Bachelor's degree or a comparable degree, provided that the examination board has determined the equivalence of this degree, or
- a relevant course of study of at least three years in two subjects admitted for combination according to § 5 LZV and educational science as well as subject didactic contents at a higher education institution outside the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act with a Bachelor's degree or a comparable degree, provided that the examination board has determined the equivalence of the course of study and the degree as well as a level of the degree that corresponds to that of a degree at a higher education institution within the scope of the Higher Education Framework Act.
The admission requirements can be found in the Common Examination Regulations of the Master's program with the teaching option Berufskollegs.
When enrolling in the Master's program for the teaching profession at vocational colleges, proof of completion of relevant practical work in accordance with § 5 Para. 6 LZV in the scope of at least 27 weeks should still be submitted. However, the proof can be made up for up to the time of registration for the Master's thesis.
If at the time of the application deadline for the Master's program there is no degree certificate according to Paragraph 2 of the GPO, the applicant can be provisionally admitted on the condition that proof is provided that all examination achievements have been completed, that the prerequisites of Paragraph 3 of the GPO are fulfilled on the basis of the examination achievements already assessed, and that the certificate according to Paragraph 2 of the GPO is subsequently submitted by December 15 or June 15.
The examination regulations of the Master's program may also contain special regulations for admission to the program.
Admission
Admission is possible for both the winter semester and the summer semester.
This course of study is currently unrestricted of admission if the above-mentioned admission requirements are met.

Enrollment can be made during the enrollment period in the Enrollment Management section (in the case of unrestricted Master's programs, until the end of the lecture period).
Prospective students from non-EU countries should inquire at the International Office.
Language Skills
The language of instruction at the University of Duisburg-Essen is German (except in the English-language programs). Therefore, you must have good German language skills if you want to study successfully. The majority of foreign applicants must pass the "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (DSH 2 level; with some exceptions) before beginning their studies.
- German nationals (persons who have acquired their higher education entrance qualification in Germany or at a German school abroad) do not require any special proof of German language skills.
- Citizens of an EU member state (and citizens of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway) or German citizens with a foreign educational qualification, as well as
- Citizens of a country outside the EU with a foreign university entrance qualification must pass the "Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang" (DSH 2 level) or the TestDaF (TDN 4) before the begin of their studies.

General Information
Living & Studying at the University of Duisburg-Essen
Semester
The academic year is divided into semesters.
- Winter semester: from October to March
- Summer semester: from April to September
Lecture period
The winter lecture period usually starts in mid-October and ends in mid-February. In summer, the lecture period usually starts in mid-April and ends in July. During the winter semester there is a break of about two weeks during the Christmas holidays.
Examination phase
The examination phase begins about one week after the end of the lecture period and lasts about seven weeks.
Semester fee
All students have to pay a semester fee (social contribution) of about 320,- Euro per semester. You can find the current amount here. The social contribution includes, among other things, a semester ticket for public transportation in North Rhine-Westphalia and discounts on meals in the university's canteen and cafeteria.
Living expenses
We recommend to consider approximately 800 to 1000 Euro of personal expenses per month.
Accommodation
Accommodation is possible in dormitories of the Studierendenwerk and in premises of the free housing market. The rent in a room in a student dormitory is about 300,- Euro per month. You can find more information about housing options here.
