Tasks & support opportunities

Networking of researchers

The main aim of research coordination is to network researchers in order to jointly initiate interdisciplinary projects. To this end, we offer to...

  • .. accompany research projects from the initial idea through to realisation,
  • .. support the development of contacts and networks,
  • .. organise transfer events and further workshops,
  • .. and advising researchers on issues relating to research funding

→ If you are planning a research project or need support, please let us know!

All information on current and completed projects of the faculty as well as an overview of research funding can be found here: Projects

We coordinate the activities within the faculty's main areas of specialisation together with the members and regularly develop the faculty's research topics further.

The faculty is very broadly based and our members conduct research in different areas. There are three areas of specialisation in total:

in which members of different departments work together.

Another offer is the organisation of events to network researchers but also to impart knowledge. These include, for example, the Science Talks format, in which a member of the faculty presents the current activities and projects of a research topic, or the organisation of inaugural lectures by appointed professors to welcome them to the faculty. We are also happy to support researchers on their own career path with a workshop or seminar.

If you have a request for an event format, please contact us and we will try to realise it together with you.

You can find an overview of all events organised by us and members of the faculty in our event calender

Together, we can increase the visibility of our research with all measures. This also includes internal and external communication. We combine current reports on your projects from the UDE Newsroom with our own contributions on our ’News’ tab and there are specially written project overviews by mainly early career researchers at the research reports.

For external communication, we use our social media presence at LinkedIn. Current projects, events and staff information are published here. Follow us if you don't want to miss anything!

If you would like to report on your project, we will be happy to help you realise it. Please feel free to contact us!

Science Talks

With Science Talks, we want to initiate thematic impulses, create space for a stronger, interdisciplinary exchange and, in particular, enable closer networking between the professors of the Faculty of Engineering. Science Talks take place regularly and consist of scientific presentations by our members with a project partner from research or industry paired with an exciting guided tour.

FIW Network for Early Career Researchers

The networking of Early Career Researchers at the Faculty of Engineering gives postdocs and doctoral students the opportunity to exchange experiences, meet peers and learn more about research in other departments at the Faculty.

Hydrogen in Context

The energy transition is one of the key challenges of the coming years. Hydrogen as an energy carrier harbours an enormous opportunity for the German energy industry. ‘Hydrogen in Context’ is an initiative of the Faculty of Engineering at the UDE and other institutions and brings together all information on the topic of “hydrogen” - from current research, collaborations and news to planned events.

12.12.2024Networking event - ‘UDE Water Research: ZWU meets Faculty of Engineering’

On 12 December, together with the Center for Water-and Environmental Research (ZWU) at the Essen campus, we invited you to network! The topic of water research is an important part of research at the UDE, so we brought together researchers from the fields of biology, chemistry and medicine with engineering sciences at this event. Our members Prof Bettar O. el Moctar (Head of INAM) and Prof. André Niemann (Head of the Chair of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management) gave an insight into their scientific work in order to create a framework for discussion, exchange and joint projects. We also heard exciting insights from Prof Martina Flörke (RUB) and Dr Olga Matantseva (UDE, algae collection). The afternoon was rounded off with a keynote speech by Prof Christoph Donner.

We are delighted that the event was so well received and will continue to organise further meetings in the future.

15.10.2024Inaugural lecture by Prof Dr Matti Schneider

On 15 October, we officially welcomed Prof. Dr Matti Schneider to the faculty with his inaugural lecture! Mr Schneider has headed the Institute for Engineering Mathematics in the Department of Civil Engineering since last winter semester and uses simulations to analyse the properties of materials for mechanical components. Many thanks also go to Prof Carolin Birk, Deputy Head of Department, for the warm welcome and moderation.

Many members of the faculty attended the festive event to listen to the lecture on ‘Simulation of mechanical properties of microstructured properties’ and to discuss possible collaborations with him afterwards.

We are very pleased about the cooperation and wish Mr Schneider and his employees a lot of success!

Many thanks to all participants!
