Acknowledgements & Authorships
Authorships
The use of IMCES services does not create a direct obligation to name our employees as authors in publications. However, this should be considered on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with good scientific practice. For our routine service offerings, there is no strong argument for granting authorship, but as soon as IMCES staff are involved in establishing or refining protocols or undertake part of the data collection or data analysis, we expect fair scientific treatment by our users.
Acknowledgements
The IMCES acknowledgement rules cover two aspects:
IMCES Acknowledgments: References to a Service Core Facility are a very important measure of quality in internal and external evaluation processes, especially by financial funding bodies. In this context, it has been decided that IMCES must be mentioned in the acknowledgements section of each publication if IMCES instruments or services were used in the preparation of the publication.
DFG acknowledgements: In addition, several DFG usage guidelines (e.g. DFG form 2.18, 01/20 for major research instrumentation proposals according to Art. 91b and DFG form 5.01, 01/24 for SFB/TRR) request an acknowledgement to the DFG if equipment purchased under DFG funding was used to generate data for a publication. This acknowledgement must contain the DFG project number and an indication of the funding programme. Please note: This is also relevant for many of our devices (see below)!
If applicable, both acknowledgements must therefore be integrated into a publication!
In order to maintain an overview of the publication activities of our users, we are dependent on active assistance. Please notify us of all relevant publications by sending a short written message to: imces-support@uk-essen.de.
